The market research industry is coining it - but for how long?

Having discussed the nature of blogging with a handful of social networking experts recently I have come to the conclusion that my blog is, indeed, rubbish. This may come as little surprise to some of you! But I have now had my worst fears confirmed.

Blogging is an increasingly important touchpoint to the customer. In some extreme cases it seems as if it is even critical. And it appears I’ve been remiss with my blogging duties!

But the important thing is that I now know where I’m going wrong! For a start, I’m not linking enough. A recent conversation with John Cass (notice how I seamlessly introduced a link into this sentence) revealed how the best blogs spark not only comments, but also discussions between blogs themselves, so that somebody will read one blog post and then write their own blog post, linking back to it.

Also, as I was reminded by Tom Nixon, blogs should be updated frequently. A quick look at the regularity of my updates reveals this is one I’m particularly guilty of.

I was also interested to hear from Tom about how the best bloggers regularly comment on other related blogs – a good example of this is Dan at Innocent. However, I was also warned of the dangers of this – and in particular how Cillit Bang had got it so hideously wrong some years ago.

So with this knowledge on board, hopefully my blog will be on the up and up from here on in. Things can only get better!

Well, I guess I had to comment. I like commenting on stuff other people have written - being interested in stuff keeps my brain working.

There can be downsides to posting comments. But you just have to follow some golden rules:

1. Say what you think, politely
2. Never post comments when angry/annoyed
3. Never post comments after drinking half a bottle of Armagnac
